Vada Naatu Kaadhal Kadhai – Part 4

4 months later…
We both started to get along well and by every passing day, I was falling in love with this girl… I just don’t know the reason why these Bengali girls are so beautiful… I know this is a transformation of sorts for someone who compared her to a mini version of Jyothika just 4 months ago but as you know no matter what, every girl in this world has the potential to twirl a guy into a passionate soul and go crazy for her…

She used to tempt me to the highest levels and I turned a lunatic… But there was one thing that remained alike during the past 4 months… When she used to talk to me earlier, I used to feel that why the hell she doesn’t stop talking and now I can’t understand what she speaks!

I strongly felt that the reason behind this emotional bliss was her biological interferential pull which further resulted in Chemical imbalance in my hormones!

I was head over heals in love with her but I feared the fact that this might or might not work with her because of her family and linguistic issues… She holds my hand and makes everyone feel that we are seeing each other but for the fact, she keeps stressing to me on the part that we both are friends even when I don’t ask for… Though this pisses me off, I didn’t want to miss on the warmth and so I kept accepting to what ever crap she used to chatter with me…

One Friday evening, I went to visit her in her flat as she didn’t make it to office that day. She opened the door but was unable to hold on. She had a running temperature and was coughing badly… I asked her whether she had any food since morning and she gave me some name in Bengali which as usual I didn’t understand… So I asked her to come to my flat and watch some Bangla TV programs and in the mean time, I would make Rasam for her…

“Rasam?”

“Now I can’t explain every thing to you in detail about the recipe in English and match the ingredient names to your poetic Bengali verses… So come home, I will prepare the Rasam and you shall have it… Once when you are fine with your health, I will explain that entire recipe to you in detail using Google translator!”

She smiled and so I took her to my flat and made her feel comfortable… I switched on the TV and tuned in the Alpha Bangla channel… But thank God! She said we will watch Hindi programs… That was a sigh of relief!

So I made the best possible Rasam that I would have ever made in my life and gave it to her… She drank 2 full glasses of it while watching TV and fell asleep on my couch! I got her a comforter and covered it over her… Trust me! My heart was pumping to new heights… She wasn’t feeling well but she was too too too gorgeous (Though it is little sadistic to say this when she wasn’t feeling well)… So I held my nerve and went back into my bedroom to sleep that night… But was checking her time to time in the night by giving her water, Vicks and tablets…

Since it was a weekend, I got up early at 11 AM and she got up little late at 11.45 AM ;)…
I made coffee for her and we were discussing about her families… I was too interested in knowing her family as I wanted to know whether it was feasible to induce Tamil into her Bengali household…

“Ours is a big family, I have 2 elder brothers, 1 elder sister and 1 younger sister… My dad and my uncles are goldsmiths… Elder brother and sister are married… We are one of the well recognized families in the city but I hate being tied up at home… And by the way, your Rasam was awesome, I feel a lot better today…”

“That’s good”, but deep in my heart I felt, that girls and troubles always come in pairs!

“Let’s go and do some window shopping on MG road… I am getting bored here…”
“Okay…” and went into the kitchen to drop off my coffee mug

And accidentally, while turning back (unknowing the fact that she was behind me to drop her coffee mug in the sink), we just bumped into each other… With her eyes suddenly split wide open she said,
“Khoma…” (Sorry)

I thought to myself… “Whatever! That was awesome!”

She had a naughty smile on her face and punched me mischievously on my chest and turned back and started to walk towards the door…“Jangli! I will go and get ready and today I am going to wear a Saree…”

And I was standing there like a weird dumbo for a minute but got back to my senses and said,
“No baby! Then you would take at least 3 hrs to get ready! And moreover I am already disturbed and don’t excite me any more ;)”

Moron!” and she left…

So as usual, we started, ate, wandered, purchased few books, CDs, chattered continuously without a topic in Coffee Day and finally returned home with a KFC bucket! But to my embarrassment it started to rain…

We reached home completely drenched and we rushed into our flat… I saw her for the second time in saree and felt that she was stunning than ever… Her red hand worked saree was completely wet, her hair was drenched in rain and water droplets from her body were dripping on my carpet…

“I will go to my room and change my dress… Don’t dare to open the bucket! I will kill you… Now open the door… Your main door sucks! Shob shomoye dhakka maarte hoye” (hameesha dhakka marna padutha hai… Always it needs a push!)

I walked close to her… I smiled at her… She smiled at me…
I held her around her waist with my left hand, and moved her closer to my chest… Ours hearts were pumping fast and I was able to feel hers… Our heads were drawn towards each other intimately and we were breathing heavily… Her fresh mint breath and her strawberry lip gloss were driving me crazy and she closed her eyes…

Our hearts were racing, and we whispered on our lips,
“Do you like Wes… Beng…?”
“I… lo…ve… Kol…ko..tta…”
“Jyo…ti Baa…su…?”
“Ro…sha…gula…” And we kissed…

And people… please don’t ask me what happened for the next five hours… All I can say is just this; we never opened the KFC bucket…!!!

Vada Naatu Kaadhal Kadhai – Part 3

Today was the D day… I was once again tortured for another round of Constantine and I decided to give out as many reasons as possible to stay away from it but God has been so merciful with Shruthi that she lived in the same building where I was but a couple of floors above…

It was 1130 AM on Saturday and I was in deep sleep… But no more!!!

The doorbell kept ringing without a break and I freaked out of my bed… I was only in my boxers and I didn’t care… I opened the door…

“What the hell??? The show is at 1400 Hrs and you are still on the bed? What’s that up and standing?”

“Oops! Sorry… come in… let me get ready in 20 mins!”

She gave a naughty smile and said… “Okay…”

I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth and she never stopped asking any questions… And she never gave a breather to answer the previous question before another one popped up…

How long has it been since you were away from your home?
I was…

Where do you live in Chennai?
In Anna…

Which college?
Loyol…

Are you too studious?
I find so many science fiction books here… Why don’t you reply to my questions?

I opened the bathroom door and smiled at her and said, “Give me a break between questions so that I can answer you…“

She gave a chirpy smile and said… “Oh ok ok… go ahead… I will not ask you any questions”

“Hmm… yeah… so it’s been almost 3 months since I am away from home… never been away from mom and dad for so long… We live in Anna Nagar…

“Do you miss your mom and dad? Don’t you have any siblings?”

I gave a constipated stare and she said, “Sorry sorry… one last time”

With a grinned look on my face…“Hmm…Yeah I miss them badly and I missed Diwali this year as well! I want to visit them at least during the Christmas break…”

“College?”

“Oh yeah… I did my graduation from Loyola College, Chennai… It’s one of the most famous colleges in India… And about my reading habit… yeah! I read a lot of science fiction“

“And you don’t wear any inner wear while you sleep!”

I had a zapped “wtf” look on my face and said, “Hey come on yaar! I am alone in my home and can’t I be that way… Chumma if you keep pulling my leg I will not come to the movie yaar…”

She started to chuckle and said “khoma… khomaaami to mojak korchilam tor shaate(Sorry…sorry… I was just pulling your leg mate…)

I couldn’t understand what she was saying but I was 100% sure that she was abusing me… I said, “What ever it is baby! Relax… Don’t scare me!”

We got out of the house and I started my bike… She was continuously smiling for something she didn’t share the reason for… I knew what it was…

“Not again on that… okay?”

“Yeah pukka… Not again on that… But tell me, why did you ask for chumma?”

“Hehehe… It is not the Hindi chumma… Its Tamil chumma…”

“What is the difference?”

“In Tamil, Chumma means again and again… while Hindi Chumma means…”

“Ok ok… I understood”

And I started to drive to the multiplex and we reached 1.5 hrs well before the start of the movie… Even for a Rajnikanth movie in Chennai, I used to go just 30 mins ahead on a first day first show…

“Ok Chumma… go park the vehicle and come… This time I had cleverly got the tickets online”

Now she had found a way to tease me every time by calling me “Chumma”

Her eyes were glinting with happiness for her achievement… Damn! I felt like I had come to a movie with a mini version of Jyothika from Kushi (Again… A crappy Tamil movie)… At times I felt pity for how stupid she was and what a waste of planet’s resources on her and for the matter of fact; I personally never liked Jyothika…

But every time I heard someone calling her name, I used to think about Vadivelu’s comedy in Pokiri for the way he used to call Asin… “Suu ruu thiii…”

But I can’t even explain this to this dumb girl as she can’t understand my language and I can’t understand hers…

Vada Naatu Kaadhal Kadhai – Part 2

Days passed by and my life was moving on without any friends and foes…The lunch breaks were followed by continuous chatters on World politics, economy, sports and movies. One weird thing that I noticed around is the way people differ from the talks in college and in office… In college it was the same talk but narrowed down to Indian Politics, Indian economy, Cricket and unbelievably boring movies from Tamil, Telugu & Hindi… And back now in the office it was political crisis in Afghanistan, Europe‘s economic policies, English Premier League and non stop chatter on English movies along with the occasional desi ones… And the most “wanna be” feature was that people trying to talk about Friends and Lost series which is telecasted bits and pieces in India without complete season based flow as in the western world…

After a month of boring time off and no project starters, I met a friend called Shruthi Sen. She was from Calcutta and she was a newbie in the project (like me)… She was planning for a weekend movie with her friends and I was invited to join… Though I knew that I didn’t have anyone else to go with, I said that I would check around my weekend status in a couple of hrs and then reply… After a couple of hrs, I replied back a YES… Prompt came the reply… E Square, 2.30 PM

I didn’t even care what the name of the movie was… So finally I arrived at the multiplex… I saw a dejected Shruthi and her friends told me that they are planning to get the tickets from a nearby theatre as this multiplex was running packed… It hardly mattered to me as all I wanted was to get out of my room and go around Pune…

We reached a theatre called Mangala… Man the look of it gave me a feel of the Parangimalai Jyothi theatre in Chennai and few other theatres in RTC X Roads, Hyderabad… ultimate tapori look… No words to explain… And finally the movie we were to watch was “Constantine“…Keanu Reeves was the actor… And Shruthi was head over heals in love with this guy…

So we got the tickets and sat inside… It was an English movie dubbed in Marathi… But the whistling was deafening and was nothing less than to what I am used to in Chennai & Hyderabad theatres… But something awesome happened… The very first scene Keanu Reeves appears on the screen, there was huge cheer and someone suddenly shouted… “Aayyyy Matrikcx“… That was the best moment in the rather boring film as I didn’t even understand the language… But Shruthi had other plans… She wanted to watch the movie silently in a multiplex to get a feel of it the next week… What the fish!!!

Like me, all her friends wanted to make sure that they are busy the next week and rather not come in sight of Shruthi… An entire week went by with people teasing and pulling Shruthi’s leg for the movie which she made us watch so painfully… And to the entire team’s happiness and my hopelessness she proposed in front of everyone that I would be accompanying her for the movie again this weekend… This left Rahul in splits and he was unable to control his laughter…

And as usual, the typical girl’s dialogues began… Raam is a very good friend of mine… He will accompany me to the movie… He doesn’t even pull my leg and never even hurts anyone… He is a gem at heart… Damn man, had I known the fact that pulling her leg would have saved me from breaking my head once again, I would have pulled her leg right from the day I saw her in the training classes…

The fish was finally caught in the net with no options and negotiations… And so I accompanied her once again… 😦

Vada Naatu Kaadhal Kadhai – Part 1

I just got selected to a company that every fresher dreams and I had a feeling that I am an yet another damn guy who selected to this awesome company… 6000 people took the written exam from South India… 500 got selected to the interview and 124 made it to the final list…And I was one of them… it was perhaps one of the greatest achievements of my life was the thought that was clouded in my mind for a long long long time…

Days went by… Trainings were conducted in a new city and an awesome campus… 1st posting to Pune… There were 11 more people who were posted along with me to this place and trust me, the first feeling that I had of Pune was indeed a pathetic one… I got out of the station with all the stylish luggage bags that I had and to my betrayal, it was pouring badly… horrible rains and on top of it, the station was one of the most pathetic stations I had ever got down on…

I walked past the taxi stand and found a taxi which could take me to the hotel where I was given accommodation for a week by the company… The cabbie sensing that I am new to this place, he straight away asked me 200 rupees for the hotel drop… I said to myself “damn you” and got into the taxi…

To add to the frustration the roads were blocked… reason… it was the 10 day long Lord Ganesh festival… And to let people back home about my arrival, I called my mom and dad in Chennai to confirm of my arrival and the moment, I spoke to them in Tamil, I don’t know what went through the cabbie’s mind… He spoke about the city’s commutation problems and he is driving me to the hotel in spite of today’s local taxi strike… So he asked me to spare 200 bucks more… But thanks to my mom, who taught me Hindi before hand, I had a chance to argue with him and show my Indian bargaining skills… But even that didn’t work with him… He said he knows very little Hindi and speaks only Marathi… Bullshit… he was lot cleverer than I thought…

And then after spending a grueling 40 min drive, I finally reached my destination… the best part was that my office campus was just opposite to the hotel where I was accommodated…

The following day I met my new manager as well as the team with which I was to work with… It was neat, cool and relaxed atmosphere to the one which I experienced the previous day… No matter how horrible the city’s roads, commutation and other over priced things were, one thing that just caught my eye was the girls… Pune is one of the most famous cities in India for the cosmopolitan people and a young crowd… Sometimes, I even have a feeling that the average age of this city should be somewhere 30 – 40 years… Good looking girls from all over country come to work in Pune (though next only to Bangalore) because of its close proximity to the financial powerhouse of India… Mumbai!
